Rouge National Urban Park- restoring ecosystems!

PARKS CANADA is committed to restoring native ecosystems in the Rouge. They are currently working on projects with municipalities, environmental groups and local farmers in a number of areas.

The reintroduction of endangered turtle species, creating easier access for wildlife to cross roads and wetland improvement are just some of the current ecosystem activities.

Blanding Turtles Thriving in Rouge National Urban Park site

Last fall an encouraging number of these hard-to-find turtles were observed in the Rouge Park site. Hikers and watchers are getting ready and hoping for even more sightings as the weather warms this spring.

Coyotes, foxes, birds-of-prey are already making their presence known and soon will several frog species and other marine life…

Bow Hunting Ducks In Rouge National Urban Park

This is not what is supposed to happen! Mrs Peter Bradshaw on a recent hike through the Rouge saw ducks being hunted during the beginning of the current spring nesting season.

This is one of the important reasons the new Rouge National Urban Park needs the protection that Parks Canada will bring!
